Eagle Dynamics announced on 17 October that OctopusG, the developer behind DCS: I-16 and DCS: La-7, is working on the DCS: MiG-27K Flogger-J2, a fully flyable module for DCS World.
Built for low and fast. The MiG-27K was designed for one job: going in low and fast to hit ground targets. OctopusG's work starts with the wing. The aim is a flight model that accurately represents the variable-sweep wing in all conditions, with handling that changes through every sweep setting.
In the cockpit. The module will feature the PrNK-23K Kaira targeting and navigation system, with laser and TV target designation, alongside the IPP-2-53 head-up display. That combination will support a wide range of weapons, from conventional bombs and guided munitions to anti-radiation missiles, and the aircraft carries the GSh-6-30A six-barrel 30 mm rotary cannon.
Attention to detail. OctopusG plans to recreate the MiG-27K's unusual landing gear retraction, and it is using photogrammetry for both the cockpit and the external model. The first work-in-progress images show the main instrument panel and side consoles, and many models are not yet textured.
Missions. The module is planned to include missions on the DCS Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria maps.
When can you fly it? Not for a while. Eagle Dynamics says the MiG-27K is still in the early stages with a lot of development ahead, and there is no release date or price yet. We will post when there is more.
